BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: I am now Lead Game Designer for Field Of Heroes!

I am proud to announce that I will be taking over as lead game designer of Soccer MOBA game, Field of Heroes! This all came about after much discussion with good friend and great game developer Gamieon, who designed the prototype for the game and is now looking to expand it into a full release. The best part is, Gamieon is 100% cool with me streaming the creation of the design document, allowing all of you to join me on this wild ride. I will be working on every single aspect of the design of this game, everything from menu flow, to characters and their skills, to the audio-visual aesthetics of this game. We will be writing a very comprehensive design document for this game, and I will be streaming it live starting this Wednesday (2/15/17) at 8PM ET! Join me as we theory craft and work together to make this game a ton of fun!

Desperate Times

We’re kicking off the night with Desperate Times, a game by long time submitter Yokcos! This is a game that started its life as a Ludum Dare 35 entry which the developer has decided to expand on. The gimmic is its a shmup in which you pilot a ship which can only reload by transforming into another ship. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this mechanic to see if it makes for compelling, or frustrating gameplay.

The Pedestrian

After that we’ll be checking out The Pedestrian, a visual gorgeous puzzle platformer with an interesting mechnic. In this game you are a clipart character that moves across the world through different signs. You can manipulate the sign’s positions, entry and exit points to get your character across the real world. I’m really excited about this game because it’s got a really distinct and creative look to it. I’m very curious to see if this game uses its aesthetic to create powerful mechanics!

Blades of the Righteous

Lastly we’ll be concluding the night with Blades of the Righteous, a turn based tactical game where you micromanage the building of your army and defend your kingdom against oncoming hordes of enemies. This game promises random encounters ensuring that each game is different from the last. We’ll be taking a close look at the interface of this game, as well as how these encounters work together to create a unique experience and gameplay feel.

Spark

First up we’ll be checking out Spark, a game space shooter with both a puzzle and survival gameplay mode. I find it curious that these two modes are seperate, it seems like puzzle sidescrolling space shooters are in short supply, so why not combine them into a hybrid? We’ll be looking closely at both modes and possibly talking about integrating them together, instead of keeping them seperate.

Shooting Game Thing

After that we’re taking a look at a space shooter by Bulletproof Outlaws! Last time we checked out a game by Bulletproof Outlaws it was Dragon Game, a game where you controlled a giant dragon who burned down buildings and ate allll the villages. Much like last time, this time we have a highly stylized Ludum Dare entry that the developer is looking into expanding on. In this one we play as a side scrolling spaceship which can transform into a giant mech, altering its hitbox and the way it performs in battle. We’ll be discussing ways to improve this game for a potential full release. Come to the show with enemy and mechanic ideas, and we’ll chat them out with the developer!

The Seeker

Finally we’ll be checking out The Seeker, a new title from Intercido etertainment. Previous we checked out Demented, which is now available on Steam Early Access. From the minimal description I’ve gotten of this game, it seems to be some sort of a Pac-man stealth game. We’ll be checking this game carefully and watching for any pitfalls similar to what we found when we checked Demented. Hope you’ll join us!

Lil Tanks

LISTEN UP MAGGOTS! First up tonight we’re checking out a new take on the Shoot em Up genre with Lil Tanks! This game is a side scrolling shoot em’ up, but instead of the standard “space shooter” convention you play as a ground tank fighting a ton of unique and strange units! This game is very unique to me, as I’ve never personally seen a shoot em up that wasn’t a space shooter of some sort, so it’s neat to see this little break from standard convention.

60 Tons

TEN HUT! Our next game of the night is another Tank related game by the name of 60 Tons. This is a 3D multiplayer online game that relies heavily on teamwork to get together to capture points and/or take out the enemy team’s tanks. These days games like this have alot of competition with World of Tanks, so we’ll be examining the handling and mechanics of the tanks themselves to see how the hold up.

Balistic Tanks

DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY! We’ll be ending our night with one final tank related game, Balisitic Tanks! This 4 player arena party game is designed to test your ability to position yourself well and trap your enemy into a no-win situation. It’s full of flashy graphics and TONS of juice to go with it, as well as a single player wave survival mode. We’ll be jumping in and killing whatever we can.

Split Brain

First up tonight we’ll be checking out Split Brain, a top down shooter inspired by a combination of Hotline Miami and John Wick. This game features a dual wielding system and promises a fast paced action experience. We’ll be seeing how well the dual wielding system controls and if it can create for a frantic experience like its inspirations.

Blobby

Next up we’ll be checking out Blobby, a puzzle platformer based around a constant bouncing mechanic. Physics based platformers are always a tricky thing to get right, which is why so many Little Big Planet levels end up failing. It’s important to get your controls as tight as possible while making sure your level design can work correctly around the physics themselves.

MiniRL

Lastly we’ll be checking out MiniRL, a procedurally-generated 2D roguelike with puzzle elements. It sets out to have accessible gameplay so that anyone can pick up and play it. This game is created by a web developer of 15 years who’s seeking a career change. We’ll be testing the level of accessability this game has as first time players with no instruction manual.
